Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Cynthia A. Tatoole

Candidate for
Governing Board Member; Grant Joint Union High School District

This information is provided by the candidate

First of all, I want you to know that my campaign is "self" funded and as a Grant Board Trustee, the only people I will owe anything to are the students, staff, parents, & community members. I will always strive to do what is best for the education and safety of the students!

I believe our schools belong to US - the taxpayers, the students, the community members, the staff, - all of us. Our schools do not belong to the Board and Superintendent. Unfortunately, the present Board and Superintendent & his Cabinet, seem to forget that they are the ones who should be answering to the public, not the public answering to them.

I believe our parents, teachers, and community members should be heard, should have more input, and should receive answers to their questions and complaints - without having to seek legal action and file lawsuits. I believe the Board Policies and Administrative Regulations should be followed and enforced. This is not happening by 4 out of the 5 present Board members. What happened to "Education First"?

I believe every student in the Grant District should be provided with career counseling their first month entering any school within the district, and be provided with a "plan" for their remaining years prior to high school graduation. For those entering as 7th graders, they would obtain an outlined 6 year educational "plan" toward their graduation and their future, whether it be in the work industry or toward the college of their choice. This "plan" would be exactly that, a "PLAN", and would of course be flexible and reviewed on a yearly basis. I believe that this can be done with proper competent personnel in place, and better communication with parents, the feeder school districts, and throughout the Grant District itself.

Our schools need books, supplies, maintenance, added classrooms, more teachers, more teacher training - MONEY! These steps will not be taken by present Board members who continue to vote to pay lobbyists and attorneys more money but don't vote to provide our school sites with their desperate needs. Our schools could certainly use the apx. $25,000 spent monthly on lobbyists and attorneys.

It is past time for the Board and Top District Administrators to quit "passing the buck" and blaming teachers, parents, and the elementary feeder districts for the extremely poor student performance in the Grant Joint Union High School District.

With all of the above in mind, I do believe the public has the right to decide if they want to keep the Grant Joint Union High School District the way it is, or dissolve it and reorganize it into two districts.

I am extremely committed and dedicated to the goals you see on this web page, and sincerely request your support when you vote on November 7th! I need your help and I believe you need mine. Together we can make it better! Thank You, Cynthia Tatoole
