As a younger person, I earned my Bachelor's Degree from UC Santa Barbara and my graduate degree from Mills College in Oakland. I worked for a number of years at St. Vincent School in Santa Barbara, the Diagnostic School for Neurologically Handicapped Children of Southern California, the Mills College Children's School and was director of the Asian Multi-cultural Childcare Center in Oakland

I have lived within the boundaries of the San Juan Unified School District for the past thirteen years. Prior to being elected to the Board of Education, I was actively involved in PTAs in four schools, coordinated the Parents-on-Campus program at a high school, participated in the Superintendent's Parent Advisory Committee, and volunteered as an adult leader for cub scouts and girl scouts for many years. Since being elected in 1996, I have visited each school site and each department annually. I have served as a high school PTA president, been manager of a youth soccer club (3 years), and continued as a youth soccer coach and a certified soccer referee (each 12 years). In addition to my aforementioned activities, I am an avid golfer (8 handicap) belonging to two local county golf clubs, as well as a quilt and fiber artist.

My husband of 22 years, Steve, and I have four children. Our oldest child graduated from Bella Vista High School in 1999 and is pursuing computer science and engineering at UC San Diego. Our second child is a high school senior, our third child is in eighth grade, and our fourth child is in sixth grade. Our children have enjoyed a high quality educational experience in this school district.
