"Robla District's Future--It is Your Choice!"

By John E. Reven

Candidate for Governing Board Member; Robla Elementary School District

This information is provided by the candidate
Respect and integrity are key components to achieve academic success within the Robla School District.
The elementary school education of our children is so important. Those seven years provide the foundation upon which all future academic endeavors are based. Should external forces be allowed to interfere with the laying that foundation, then the integrity of successive academic pursuits is placed at risk.

To what sort of external forces do I refer? Inadequate funding, irresponsible and weak leadership, strained administrator/staff relations, minimal parent involvement and community support can all have a negative impact upon the education process. As a parent who has been actively involved in the education of my children for the past eight years, I can see that the Robla School District is high on ideals, employee know-how, compassion and commitment but low on resources, support, leadership and morale.

I believe it is time to take the steps necessary to rectify this. It is time to rebuild the budget reserve; to re-establish an effective leadership; to strengthen parent involvement; and to awaken community interest and support. How do I envision this happening? To begin with, I believe School Board trustees should make it their responsibility to learn how the district works so they can make informed decisions and establish policies that are viable and constructive. Secondly, I believe open and honest communication between the Board and the district personnel is a must. Thirdly, I believe the Board should be composed of members who are not afraid to take action when action is called for.

My involvement with Robla School District has been lengthy and comprehensive. I serve as Chairperson of Robla School's Site Council, Treasurer of the Robla Education Foundation, member of the Robla District Medi-Cal Collaborative, and member of the District Advisory Council. I have been actively involved with the school wide fundraising at Robla School for the past seven years, and this is the second year that I have conducted a school wide fundraiser at Taylor St. School, in addition to having volunteered nearly a thousand hours at Robla School. I have been attending school board meetings for the past four years and am extremely familiar with current district issues and needs, and the histories behind them.

Let me help your children. Let me help this district give back to its teachers and support staff what they need to do their jobs the way they would like to--the way they can and should be done. Let me help the school district further accomplish that which I am unable to accomplish as a volunteer.

Vote for me for Board Trustee of the Robla School District.
