Dear Friends and Neighbors,

If you are like me, you are tired of the fighting and confusing arguments surrounding the Healthcare District and Marin General Hospital. Shouldn't we all be able to go to a hospital that is free of hostility and conflict, where the administration, nurses and physicians work together to provide the best possible medical care? I am a public-policy trained attorney who searches for ways to reach agreement, to mediate, to compromise so that both sides win and the waste of litigation is avoided. I would like to bring this kind of leadership to the Healtchare District Board.

We need to reform the Healthcare District Board and bring in new blood as the Marin Independent Journal said in its editorial endorsing me. We need reform because the incumbents and their supporters have failed us:

FAILED to improve healthcare in Marin (one of the incumbents asked the rest of the Board to publicly apologize for this failure);

FAILED by diverting millions of dollars into lawyers pockets and LOSING AGAIN AND AGAIN;

FAILED by opposing the County's plan for a coordinated trauma system;

FAILED by not spending a single cent on healthcare programs;

FAILED by frightening the public with claims about the quality of care at Marin General which have been found by the League of Women Voters to be deceptive;

FAILED by ignoring a potential $204 million seismic compliance obligation;

FAILED by deceiving the public about our positions.

Here is my commitment to you. When elected I will:

PROTECT Marin from the failings of managed care;

FIGHT to improve the quality of care at Marin General Hospital;

SUPPORT the County-wide trauma plan;

HOLD MGH/Sutter to its obligation to retrofit Marin General for earthquakes;

DEMAND an audit of all payments by MGH to Sutter Health;

SUPPORT community healthcare programs such as the Marin Community Clinic;

TELL the truth

ISSUE an Annual Report on Healthcare to the District's voters.

All you need to remember on November 7 is Marin Healthcare Leadership: Meador, Hassin and Ley for Healthcare Reform.

Thanks for listening,

Doug Ley
