Position Papers
Maintaining Local Public Service in Our Communities
I am a strong advocate of keeping our local branch offices open so that all LA County taxpayers can use our services. Many of our offices are currently scheduled for closure-- with no notice having been given to taxpayers. These closures are especially hard on seniors and working families with children. I simply don't think that's right.
The Assesor Must Combine Technical Expertise with Management Skill
I believe that the Assessor must have an expert's understanding of assessment policy, as well as management and technical skill. I've been endorsed by the prestigious Appraisal Institute as the best qualified real estate expert in the race, and in my Navy career I successfully upgraded a submarine's systems from old technology to new technology. My experience and skill have been endorsed by the Chairman of the US Senate Subcommittee on Government Management.
Fighting new taxes, fighting for an increased homeowner's exemption.
I will diligently protect you from new, unfair taxes. I will also fight for a realistic increase in the homeowner's exemption. Although most candidates talk about fighting new taxes, I have taken action. I was the only candidate to take a stand on AB 2288, which in its original form would have raised commercial property taxes by 25%. When our state treasury such a large surplus, we need to spend and budget what we have wisely and with compassion.

Key Endorsements
  • Chairman of the Senate Subcommittee on Gov't. Management-- George Voinovich
  • Chairman of the California State Board of Equalization-- Dean Andal
  • Numerous Legislators, LA County Mayors and City Councilpersons
