My Position for this term in office

By Jack W "Woody" Colvard

Candidate for Councilmember; City of Shafter

This information is provided by the candidate
4 years ago when I began the office of councilman my direction was clear from the community and is just as clear today. In 1996 the community developed a Vision and a Plan. This plan had 6 major requirements for anyone in this office. They were Creating Jobs, Public Safety, Schools, Recreation, Urgent Care and Downtown.

To show you the citizen that I am listening, first I must tell you what you and I have accomplished over the past 4 years. We have met the following challenges and accomplishments over my past term.

We have created jobs through following projects: International Trade and Transportation Center, Constrution of GAF, New Sonic Drive-in, Expansion of Grimway farms, JD Rush, KWH Pipe, moving to our community Helena and Wilbur-Ellis Chemical and opening of Shafter Career Services Center.

We have our the past 4 years developed one of the finest police departments in the state. We have a full compliment of trained and well equiped police officers. And we have the finest leadership any small city could ask for.

We have began to develope a plan to meet our Urgent Care Needs by the bringing in the Shafter Health Center. This is only the beginning and I promise we will not stop in this area until we have met the needs in this area.

Downtown has been the most challenging problem of all, but as you can see we have began the improvement of downtown. But to make sure that downtown is successful alot more must be done. We must hire a downtown manager, we must reinvest in our existing businesses with incentive programs. We must also plan incentive programs to attract new busness to our community. We must manage this plan well. My goal this term is to make downtown and asset to the residents of Shafter not a liaibility.

With all this said: What are my priorities for the next term if I am reelected: WE must address the needs of our Youth immediately, we need to build a New Park on the west side of town, we must create an Area Wide Economic Development with more equitability benefit for Shafter, we must continue improving our Police Department, we must improve our Alley and Street Maintenance, we must Improve collaboration with other Local Governments(Recreation dept., School District, etc.), we must continue our Downtown Revitalization and Improve the Overall Appearance of our Community and finally we need to Review and Update Your City Vision Priorites.

This I know is an aggressive plan for our community, but I believe that I with the people of this community can do it.

Thank you for considering reelecting me on November 7th.

Jack "Woody" Colvard
