School Voucher System

By Emil P. Rossi

Candidate for United States Representative; District 1

This information is provided by the candidate
State Superintendent of schools, Delaine Easten, says she wants all candidates to promise to work to bring up the total money per child in California to the national average.

I am going to throw the ball back in her court. If she really means to improve education there are two things she can do that will improve education 100% for less money. Get rid of tenure, which is against all concepts of the free enterprise system.

Everybody should be held accountable for their actions and their nonactions. The right to hire and fire has to be absolute in all bosses, who also have to be accountable to a school board.

The second is to implement the voucher system. The right of parents to choose the schooling of their choice and not some one like Delaine Easten telling them they are superior and therefore know what is best for them.

Easten has a very fine life style and compensation because of the free enterprise system. Then she goes against every concept of it. Worst of all this socialism is being passed on to our youngsters. This country guarantees one thing and that is the opportunity to work towards their goals. Affirmative action is wrong and so is the way students are selected to get in our public universities. Every student that wants to enter into a public university should be entered into a lottery. Just because they do not have a high grade average is no reason in a democracy to not give an equal chance to all. If they can not make it they will wash out. The present sytem is just plain educational bigotry. Private colleges can do as they please, but the huge subsidies granted to them must be eliminated. Let them use their own funds for research. Which they can sell on the open market.

Lastly, all students should be given the opportunity to attend a college and also be made to pay for it. Why should the person with only a high school education or less be made to pay for the person who gets a college education. Especially, since it is a fact the person with a college education will make more money than without.
